The Boom of Digital Art

By Galy, Posted Nov 23, 2022 ,In 3D Art

Digital art is probably the newest art form we've seen in the past few years, but it has become increasingly prominent due to the worldwide expansion of the internet. This has caused several artists to create wonderful digital pieces, which has started a whole movement to ensure digital art is seen as a real art form.

One of these artists is Gal Yosef, and in the following article, we will learn more about him and his pieces.

What Is Digital Art?

Digital art is any creative practice that employs digital technology as a crucial component of the artistic process. It falls within the broader genre of new media art. The spectrum of digital art includes anything from digital photography, computer graphics, and pixel art to more experimental mediums such as AI-generated art and AR art. Just like traditional fine art, digital art provides a variety of techniques and styles that artists may use to express themselves.

Digital art is constantly changing and has radical creation, dissemination, and consumption methods, using techniques that are not exclusive to artistic expression alone.

Digital art produces a digital end product, such as a vector graphic, an Adobe Photoshop collage, a virtual environment, or an NFT, to name a few. It also uses various electrical technology. The artist's toolkit is now more diverse than ever due to how deeply ingrained digital technology is in modern life.

When Did Digital Art Become Popular?

Although the first examples of digital art emerged in the 1980s, its roots can be found in the 1960s with the exploration of the interaction between humans and machines by artists such as Frieder Nake, the collective EAT (Experiments in Art and Technology), and Allan Kaprow. They foresaw a world of limitless communication and interconnectedness.

Similar to how Nam June Paik, a pioneering video artist, predicted a day of unlimited communication and popularized the term "electronic superhighway" in the 1970s. In the early 1980s, artist Harald Cohen and a team of engineers created the paint program AARON, a robotic device that could create massive paintings on a sheet of paper on the ground.

The computer first produced abstract drawings, but they became more realistic over time, and it eventually learned to mimic natural shapes. AARON also began adding color to the sketches in the 1990s. Even though Cohen was always extremely cautious not to claim AARON's originality but rather his own, viewing the computer only as a vehicle for his personal expression, his software is now seen as a forerunner of what we know as artificial intelligence today.

With the rise of the personal computer, advancements in digital technology, and the rise of the internet in the 1990s, artists were given more creative freedom and new avenues for art appreciation since there was a rising interest in the interactive aspect of their creative work.

Why Is Digital Art so Popular?

Since art is one of the few things whose meaning can only be determined by the observer, it has transcended all barriers. The development of digital technology has made it possible for the artist to produce a work that is now accessible to viewers all over the world.

Art is about the artist's vision, message, or emotion, not the instruments employed to make it. A creative medium used by artists is photography. Similar to other media or tools, an artist may use a computer to convey their ideas about line, shape, color, composition, and rhythm. Although it is entirely new, many of its components have roots in established artistic traditions.

Gal Yosef's Digital Artworks

Gal Yosef, a well-known self-taught artist in 3D animation and art, has established his adaptability by introducing two popular NFT collections. Yosef outlined why NFTs are a "natural" shift for digital artists in an exclusive conversation with Cointelegraph and why the sector is ready to expand despite present challenges.

Yosef entered the NFT sector in 2021 with the release of the Crypto Bulls Society line. According to reports, significant sales and auctions from the collection made him earn well over $50 million.

He said that the only uncertain factor in introducing an NFT collection was the market dynamics of the new sector. He wasn't sure what the outcome would be, but then he understood it's all centered on the community; the art can be as beautiful as it can be, but the artwork would only succeed with a healthy community.

Conclusion

Digital Art has become one of the most important art types to exist in the world, as it can be easily commercialized and distributed through all sorts of digital platforms.

Gal Yosef has revolutionized the world of digital art with his fantastic 3D animations and NFTs. If you want to check them out and potentially obtain your own piece, don't hesitate to check the rest of this page.
